A STATEMENT FROM
PETER MUNSON

(ESPECIALLY FOR THE MEN):

In my experience, many men try to find most, if not all, of their fulfillment through their work.  While I find much fulfillment in my work as a priest and pastor, I have discovered over the years that relationships are the very essence of life.  After I die, I will not be remembered so much for a sermon I gave, but for how I loved.

Did I love God?  How did I live that out?

Did I love my wife?  Was I committed to working towards an ever-deepening relationship with Julia?

Did I love my children?  (In my estimation, being a parent is probably the hardest and most important work I will ever do.)

Was I there for my friends and for the people who were members of the churches that I served?

What did I do to demonstrate my love and care for the less fortunate?

These are all related questions, because these are questions about relationship and connection.  That is where meaning and fulfillment are found in life - in our relationships.  What title or what initials I can put after my name, what salary I make, how much influence I have - these measures of “success” pale in comparison to the way we do our relationships.  In my view, we are called to be faithful, not to be successful.

I challenge all the men out there, especially those who are having trouble finding real fulfillment in their lives, to ask themselves these questions.

Are you trying to “go it alone”?

Have you found success, as the culture defines it, and yet you still feel like something is missing?

Have you pushed God out of your life, adopting the philosophy that you can make it by yourself?

Do you give as much attention and time to your relationships (with your partner, children, friends) as you do to your work?

If you think about these questions and you come to the conclusion that your relationships are not what they could be, that your primary relationship is not what it could be, please consider attending this workshop, Creating Connection.  I believe that you won’t regret it!  I know that my marriage to Julia is the very best part of my life, and I find deep fulfillment through my relationship with her.

I hope you will attend the workshop.  I will look forward to meeting you.

Faithfully,

Peter Munson
